Across the Universe †All you need is love Essay

â€Å"Across the Universe† is a melodic film dependent on 34 organizations by the incredible rock’n’roll group of four †the Beatles. The film is called after a similar name tune of the band, â€Å"Across the Universe†, which was discharged in 1969 and later as one of tracks of a cause collection â€Å"No One is Going to Change Our World† at the name â€Å"Apple†. The plot has nothing to do with the Beatles’ individuals life. Anyway the imagined in the film occasions speak to numerous attributes of their time being set in the 60’s and spin around the tunes which coordinate a ton of incredible scenes. Every single principle character bear the names got from its unique verses: predominated in life Lucy (â€Å"Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds†), aspiring Jude (â€Å"Hey Jude†), a novice vocalist Sadie (â€Å"Sexy Sadie†), a slacker Max (â€Å"Maxwell’s Silver Hammer†), Prudence (â€Å"Dear Prudence†) and so on. The initial 45 minutes is hyper and let us meet the characters. It doesn’t truly depend on plot, as most musicals, it depends more on character improvement. Jude moves to the USA in reason to discover his dad. On appearance he coincidentally meets Max who turns into his companion in a brief timeframe. Together the young men go to New York where they are joined by Max’s sister Lucy (she has quite recently lost her beau slaughtered on the front line). They rapidly discover that the fantasy about living autonomously and making the most of their lives as a grown-ups has its own troubles. The subsequent demonstration is unique: Vietnam War, hallucinogenic excursions brought about by taking LSD, free love seasoned with rock’n’roll †that is the very landscape of the sentimental and simultaneously disastrous storyline. In the third demonstration we really get the chance to see the characters take care of their issues, it bargains much more with our emotions towards music and war. Over the Universe† is in reality entirely different from most musicals. Where most musicals depend on either delight, feeling, or war, it depends on every one of the three. There are a few minutes where you really feel like you need to get up and move. The music here is completely astonishing. No genuinely. It’s astounding. The cast individuals (and read how I state cast individuals and not vocalists) sang these melodies and did such an extraordinary activity, that in the event that I even had a decision, I would really needed to state that a portion of their forms of tunes were superior to the real Beatles. Talking about the most grounded minutes I would recognize one ideal case of recounting to a story through the tune that has significant essentialness to me and ridiculously serious †the scene where Jude paints a tore and nailed to the canvas draining strawberry during â€Å"Strawberry Fields Forever† being sang. The berry as an image of affection, floods of blood as an image of war and passing, blazing countenances of the characters out of sight and paint-made blood everywhere throughout the screen †it’s all in red, the shade of desire and devastation. While viewing the film I felt various feelings: giggling, bliss, fervor yet additionally trouble, dread and outrage. What I’ve got from â€Å"Across the Universe† is in excess of a film, it is an involvement with itself. It could be any sort of experience †a fun and totally different experience, or a profoundly enthusiastic and erotic experience. For me, it was a greater amount of the second. When â€Å"Hey Jude† played close to end of the film I had come up short on tears. It felt like I knew all the characters everlastingly yet when the two hours and ten minutes were over I was biting the dust to see more. I am really anticipating seeing this over and over.

History has proved that there are several occurrences that have sprouted questions within the mind. Did we really land on the moon in 1969? Did an alien spacecraft crash in New Mexico? The entourage was a group of Tupac’s friends. One would assume that they were friends that would be willing to protect Tupac, especially, Tupac’s bodyguard. So when the shooter in the white Cadillac finished shooting at Tupac, it is particularly speculative that no one sought to figure out who the murderer was shortly after the incident. The murder took place in Las Vegas, which is adjacent to a huge desert. Why was it so easy for the assailants to get away? There was only one witness to the shooting. His name was Yafeu Fula and he was found shot to death on November 10th in a hallway of an apartment building in East Orange , NJ. Incident Analysis Incident By Nathasha Trethwey - 929 Words

â€Å"It is easy to hate and it is difficult to love. This is how the whole scheme of things works. All good things are difficult to achieve; and bad things are very easy to get†- Confucius. In â€Å"Incident† written by Nathasha Trethwey the speaker conveys a frightening experience she has with the hate group the Ku Klux Klan into an anecdote that is able to cause change. Upon this reading this essay the reader doesn t feel that the speaker is encouraging hate or revenge for the injustices bestowed on her. Rather, she is promoting peace and not attempting to further fuel the flame. Trethewey uses persona, tone and irony to depict the effect racial discrimination during an age where hate crimes were a frequent occurrence. Trethewey demonstrates the speaker with a serene and courageous persona. The scene described by the speaker is actually quite disturbing, however the way the speaker conveys it does not portray it that way. As the speaker recalls that night â€Å"We tell the story each year†(1,21) the reader becomes more and more intrigued. With the repetition of this line during the first and the last line, the reader assumes that the speaker is telling her story to others. Trethewey relates to speaker in her story because they both are African American and know what it is like to be perceived as inferior. As we can recall from history, hate crimes that occurred during the civil rights era were monstrous and appalling. Horrible acts like lynching, church burning, and anti-black

Evil in Women and its Effect on Macbeth Essay Example For Students

Evil in Women and its Effect on Macbeth Essay My thought, whose murder yet is but fantastical, Shakes so my single state of man that function Is smotherd in surmise, and nothing is But what is not. (1.3.140-143). Throughout Shakespeares play, we see that Macbeth is the victim of evil seduction by women. In the above quote the evil is perpetrated by the witches. Lady Macbeth also plays a strong role in his moral corruption. the influence of Lady Macbeth (though she too has an inarticulate angel struggling against her own evil), and the instigation of a supernatural power all combine to crush his better nature. (Boyce 391). Macbeth would not have even thought of killing Duncan, if it were not for the influence of the witches and his wife. Historically, man has been corrupted by woman. Going back to the story of Adam and Eve, we see such an example. .. she took of the fruit thereof, and she did eat it; and she gave it unto her husband (Genesis 3.6). Eve, out of fear, beguiled Adam. In Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and the witches, succumb ing to greed, corrupted Macbeth. Lady Macbeths actions parallel those of the witches. The witches planted the idea that Macbeth should become king. Lady Macbeth followed through with this idea by pushing Macbeth to kill Duncan. a very definition of the weird sisters calling on them to unsex her to cram her with cruelty from top to toe (Bloom 29). This quote illustrates the connection between Lady Macbeth and the witches, showing us that they both participated in Macbeths moral decline. Shakespeare, it seems, utilizes the symbol of the witches to portray the basic evil inherent in Lady Macbeth. One could not have worked without the other. If it were only the witches prophecies, then Macbeth would surely not have murdered Duncan. It was because Lady Macbeth constantly harassed her husband, that he was driven to commit all this evil. her blood thickened, her milk changed to gaul into the inhuman, the distortion of nature (Ludwyk 233). This illustrates the complete metamorphosis of Lady Macbeth from a loving, beauti ful, caring, kind wife to a ruthless, nasty, shrew of a woman. The women in this play distort Macbeths intuition so much that he thinks he is doing the right thing. his liberty of free choice is determined more and more by evil inclination and that he can not choose the better course (Bloom 55). Even after the deed is done, Lady Macbeth greets her husband and her greeting recalls the weird sisters. (Ludwyk 233). This teaches us that even after the murder is done she does not return to her former self. This evil tears them apart. In the beginning of the play Macbeth calls his wife, my dearest partner of greatness (1.5.11-12). At the end of the play, however, when Lady Macbeth kills herself, he shows no sympathy. she should have died here after (5.5.17). Lady Macbeth uses every weapon in her arsenal, moral or immoral, to corrupt Macbeth. Lady Macbeth makes a sex weapon in her efforts to spur Macbeths ambition. (Boyce 391). This shows that Lady Macbeth sexually enticed Macbeth in addition to her constant nagging. She succeeded in manipulating him. She calls him My Husband (2.2.13) when he has just killed the king . This the only time she calls him Husband suggests that she finds him sexually impressive in his gore. (Ibid). Lady Macbeth actually feeds off of Macbeths acts of violence. She is stimulated by his savagery. .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc , .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc .postImageUrl , .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc , .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc:hover , .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc:visited , .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc:active { border:0!important; } .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc:active , .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ua5499c2b5c882e0724400b77f5d8edcc:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Computer app EssayMacbeth is not so innocent. evil is a perversion of human values, and the fact that he persisted in his awareness demonstrates a profound moral disorder. (Boyce 391). The fact that Macbeth persisted shows that he knew that what he was doing was wrong. Yet, he continued to murder. Shakespeare opened his play with the scene of the witches to portray evil in the mind of the audience. The audience could understand the evil that the witches represented. Lady Macbeth, however, conjures up an image of royalty, loyalty and goodness. In order to help us overcome our initial opinion of Lady Macbeth, and allow us to accept her

The Long Walk Home Essay Example For Students

The Long Walk Home Essay African Americans fought for their rights for a long time. Since the 16th century, African Americans have been fighting for their freedom and equality. They have been treated as slaves and discriminated by the white people. Their situation got better as time went by, but until the 19th century they were still treated differently. The Montgomery Bus Boycott occurred during the 1950s, which marks the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement by the African American community. In the movie The Long Walk Home, it shows us the challenges and sacrifices faced by the African American community to end the very hard life they have been experiencing for a long period of time in America. In the 1950s, the Montgomery Bus Boycott happened. During that time segregation was happening in some places like Montgomery, Alabama. There was a bus segregation which means white people sit on the front seats and black people sit at the back seats. After the incident that happened with Rosa parks, a black woman who refused to give her seat to a white man was arrested by the police. We will write a custom essay on The Long Walk Home specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Therefore many black people joined the bus boycott which means thousands of black people didn’t use the bus until the bus segregation stops. This movement for equality required a huge sacrifices and obstacles endured by the African American community. Many African Americans didn’t own a car, so they walked to work and home everyday in support of the Boycott. In the movie, we see that Odessa walked miles to work and home. African American women were treated harshly by white men. In the movie, there’s a scene when Odessa is discriminated by a police officer at the park. Another scene is when Odessa’s daughter and son was threatened and hurt by three white men. This shows us how harshly black people were treated because of the movement they were doing to gain equality. During this challenging events African American community unitedly stand to sought victory. During this time when African American were fighting for their equal rights, the church was their source of hope. The church was a place where they did not fear the society they were living in. In the last scene in the movie, we see how united they were, it was the moment when black people were screamed at and told to surrender. This was a memorable moment because they didn’t fight back instead they sing which they proved that violence won’t solve the issue. African Americans proved that their unity was important to their long sought victory. Despite the struggles faced by the African Americans Miriam Thompson, a white woman, supported the bus boycott. At first she didn’t want to be involved with it, but as time went by and she realized how racist the people around her she decided to do what’s right. She drove Odessa, her maid, to work and later on she began helping the other black people by doing a carpool. Miriam Thompson sacrificed a lot for what she think is right. She sacrificed her relationship with her husband and her surrounding community. Because of what she did it shows us the equality that will happen in the future. The African American community gave their full effort and sacrifice a lot for their equality. They endured all the obstacles and faced it bravely to gain freedom and acceptance. This movie changed the public views on them, they proved to the people of that time, that they’re part of America and people like them deserve acceptance and equality.

Coca (Cocaine) History, Domestication, and Use

Coca (Cocaine) History, Domestication, and Use Coca, the source of natural cocaine, is one of a handful of shrubs in the Erythroxylum family of plants. Erythroxylum includes over 100 different species of trees, shrubs and sub-shrubs native to South America and elsewhere. Two of the South American species, E. coca and E. novogranatense, have potent alkaloids occurring in their leaves, and those leaves have been used for their medicinal and hallucinogenic properties for thousands of years. E. coca originates from the montaà ±a zone of the eastern Andes, between 500 and 2,000 meters (1,640-6,500 feet)  above sea level. The earliest archaeological evidence of coca use is in coastal Ecuador, ca 5,000 years ago. E. novagranatense is known as Colombian coca and it is more able to adapt to different climates and elevations; it first up in northern Peru beginning about 4,000 years ago. Coca Use The ancient method of Andean cocaine use involves folding coca leaves into a quid and placing it between the teeth and the inside of the cheek. An alkaline substance, such as powdered wood ash or baked and powdered seashells is then transferred into the quid using a silver awl or pointed tube of limestone. This method of consumption was first described to Europeans by the Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci, who met coca users when he visited the coast of northeastern Brazil, in AD 1499. Archaeological evidence shows the procedure is much older than that. Coca use was part of ancient Andean daily life, an important symbol of cultural identity in ceremonies, and used medicinally as well. Chewing coca is said to be good for relief of fatigue and hunger, beneficial for gastrointestinal illnesses, and said to ease the pain of dental caries, arthritis, headaches, sores, fractures, nosebleed, asthma, and impotence. Chewing coca leaves also is believed to ease the effects of living in high altitudes.   Chewing more than 20-60 grams (.7-2 ounces) of coca leaves results in a cocaine dose of 200-300 milligrams, equivalent to one line of powdered cocaine. Coca Domestication History The earliest evidence of coca use discovered to date comes from a handful of preceramic sites in the Nancho Valley. Coca leaves have been direct-dated by AMS to 7920 and 7950 cal BP. Artifacts associated with coca processing were also found in contexts dated as early as 9000-8300 cal BP. What is the AMS dating method? What does cal BP mean? Evidence for coca use has also been from in caves in the Ayacucho valley of Peru, within levels dated between 5250-2800 cal BC. Evidence for coca use has been identified from most cultures in South America, including Nazca, Moche, Tiwanaku, Chiribaya and Inca cultures. According to ethnohistoric records, horticulture and use of coca became a state monopoly in the Inca empire about AD 1430. The Inca elites restricted use to the nobility beginning in the 1200s, but coca continued to widen in use until all but lowest classes had access at the time of the Spanish conquest. Archaeological Evidence of Coca Use Nanchoc valley sites (Peru), 8000-7800 cal BPAyacucho valley caves (Peru), 5250-2800 cal BCValdivia culture (3000 BC) of coastal Ecuador (may represent long-distance trade or domestication)Peruvian coast (2500-1800 BC)Nazca figurines (300 BC-AD 300)Moche (AD 100-800) pots illustrate a bulging cheek, and coca leaves in gourds have been recovered from Moche tombsTiwanaku by AD 400Arica, Chile by AD 400The Cabuza culture (ca AD 550) mummies buried with coca quids in their mouths In addition to the presence of coca quids and kits, and the artistic depictions of coca use, archaeologists have used the presence of excessive alkali deposits on human teeth and alveolar abscesses as evidence. However, it isnt clear whether abscesses are caused by coca use, or treated by coca use, and results have been ambiguous about using excessive calculus on teeth. Beginning in the 1990s, gas chromatography was used to identify cocaine use in mummified human remains, particularly the Chirabaya culture, recovered from the Atacama Desert of Peru. The identification of BZE, a metabolic product of coca (benzoylecgonine), in hair shafts, is considered ample evidence of coca use, even for modern-day users. Coca Archaeological Sites San Lorenzo del Mate (Ecuador), 500 BC-AD 500, adult male interment with excessive calculus deposits on his teeth, an associated decorated shell spatula and a small bowl-like deposit of an alkali substance (probably once in a gourd)Las Balsas (Ecuador) (300 BC-AD 100). Delay Retirement as Housing, Stock Swoon Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Delay Retirement as Housing, Stock Swoon - Essay Example The housing bubble of 2008 caused many Americans to lose thousands of dollars in equity value. The housing market used to be so good that many Americans bought a second property for investment purposes. Those people that choose the route of investing in the house market for profits have taken a huge hit since the majority of properties in the United States have lost a lot of value. According to the article the housing market in the U.S lost over 10% in value in 2008. Along with a depleting housing market retirees have also seen their other investment instruments go down in value in a significant manner. One of the financial retirement instruments that people invest on the most is 401k plans. These plans often invest a lot of money in the stock market. The value of stocks or equity went down approximately 15.5% in 2008. The loss of value hurt the potential retirees the most because older people do not have the leisure of time like young people do. A young person can wait until the market picks up once again. Retirees depend on that equity money to help pay for their living expenses. The combined effect of the devaluation in the stock market and the depreciation of homes has force many senior citizens to continue working instead of retiring early. As of 2008 approximately 78 million baby boomers reached the age of 60. Many of these individual planned on retiring early, but a lot of them have found it extremely hard to make a commitment to retireme nt due to the fact that the value of their retirement savings has gone down. The senior citizens that are supposed to retire are holding on to jobs that younger people need. This has created market inefficiency in the labor markets. There are so many jobs to go around in the United States. The current situation is unfair to both young people and older people.

How the present day data centers are turning to virtual data centers Research Paper

How the present day data centers are turning to virtual data centers - Research Paper Example The Hyper-V process allows the virtual machine user to craft and manager one’s virtual machines process by implementing the popular virtual technology. Hyper V operates effectively in the Windows Server 2012 setup. Hyper-V allows the virtual machines user to run several operating systems together, starting and ending at the same time on a solo physical computer. The process includes implementing the different operating systems on a separate virtual machine. Consequently, memory usage can be increased more effectively and more efficiently. Virtual machines use lesser memory compared to physical machines, saving cost by increasing the virtual machines’ restarting functions. Hyper V administration implements strict security measures by implementing a local administrator’s setup (http://technet.microsoft.com). In addition, Harley Stagner (2009) insists that Microsoft’s Virtual Server 2005 Release 2, Hyper-V is a bare metal server virtualization product. The op erating system does not sit between the hardware and the hypervisor (the code implements the server virtualization process). The hypervisor (Hyper-V) is generates processing on Windows Server 2008. The Windows server is the parent partition, respectfully a privileged guest virtual machine. Virtual machines have gained popularity in the computer environment. To join the bandwagon, Microsoft offers Hyper –V program. The program works in Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 20008 infrastructure environment. Hyper-V enhances software infrastructure and management tools needed to craft and administer the virtual server system. Hyper-V contains dynamic memory. The virtual environment augments and improves the use of the physical machine environment (http://technet.microsoft.com). How the move to virtualization affects our data networks today. Singh Amit theorized the move to virtualization enhances data network processing today (http://www.kernelthread.com). First, virtual mac hines can combine the data processing of many less maximized servers to a lesser number of machines, including only one server consolidating machine. Consequently, the users can reduce avoidable costs. Second, virtual machines increase the effectiveness and efficiency of legacy processes. Virtual machines help in the individuals’ or companies’ strive to achieve goals and plans. The same processes may not work on newly installed hardware or newly bought operating systems. Likewise, the use of the newly installed hardware or newly bought operating systems will not maximize server use, unlike the virtual machines (http://www.kernelthread.com). Further, virtual machines offer enhanced security that includes isolated sandboxes to access and process trust-lacking programs or websites (http://www.kernelthread.com). One can implement address obfuscation to implement on the fly environments that are downloaded from the internet sites, increasing the danger of accessing trust-la cking websites. Such websites may steal information from the downloading computer and wreak havoc on the computers’ processing time and processing output quality. Virtual machines popularity is based on the concept of creating secured computing environments (http://www.kernelthread.com). Furthermore, virtual machines offer hardware illusions and configure the users’ hardware, which is absent (http://www.kerne

The benefits associated with exercising Essay Example for Free

The benefits associated with exercising Essay 1. Exercising lowers your risk for disease There’s no question losing weight is good for your health, and kicking your fitness up a notch has even greater benefits. Regular exercise has been shown to boost mood and banish anxiety, and lower your risk for stroke, Type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer. It can also help you fall asleep quicker, and into a deeper sleep (just don’t exercise too close to bedtime). All great reasons to get your body moving on a daily basis! * It burns off blood sugar Recent Czech research showed that three months’ strength training improved insulin sensitivity in men with insulin resistance. A British study confirmed that exercise was linked to reduced metabolic syndrome—and that people who were unfit to start with benefited even more from the physical activity than those who were reasonably fit when they started. * It controls weight Exercise burns calories so you lose, or at least don’t gain, weight. A recent study showed that among people whose BMI averaged 41 (that’s morbidly obese) those who lost just 7 percent of their body weight through regular exercise regained healthy blood pressure and triglyceride levels, and the inflammation in their arteries dropped by between a quarter and a third, even though their BMI still averaged 38 (still too high). Numerous studies have confirmed that you don’t need to be skinny to be physically fit. * It cuts total cholesterol The major and most important effect of exercise is to raise levels of â€Å"good† cholesterol, thus reducing total cholesterol levels. An international review of multiple studies revealed that adding exercise to a weight-loss diet not only raised the good cholesterol but also increased the benefits of the weight-loss program and reduced triglycerides and blood pressure. * It reduces your heart rate Every 60 seconds, the average couch potato’s heart beats 70 to 75 times. An active person’s heart, on the other hand, is so strong that it can pump the same amount of blood in only 50 beats. That’s 36,000 fewer beats every day and 13 million fewer by the end of just one year. Exercise strengthens your heart and saves it having to work at a higher rate all the time. * It breaks bad habits In a study of 280 women, U.S. researchers found that those who gave up smoking were twice as likely to stay smoke-free—and gained half as much weight—as those who gave up without exercising. * It lifts stress and sadness The positive effects of exercise on mood were demonstrated in a British study where sedentary adults were randomly assigned to moderate intensity aerobic exercise, stretching exercises or none at all, for 12 weeks. Those in the moderate intensity group reported reduced tension, anxiety and confusion. The others did not. Additionally, a Berlin study revealed that just 30 minutes a day of exercise can be more effective than antidepressant drugs in treating depression. Exercise stimulates the brain to produce endorphins—the body’s â€Å"feel good† hormones. It has two other advantages: it acts immediately and has few harmful or dangerous side effects. * It could save your life According to the World Health Organization, inactivity causes 2 million deaths worldwide annually and is a major factor in breast and colon cancer, diabetes and heart disease. The World Hear Federation believes that inactivity is as bad for you as smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. 2. Be a good role model Child obesity is becoming a serious problem. Approximately 26 percent of Canadian kids aged 2-17 are overweight or obese. Even scarier, stats show that for the first time ever, today’s children will have a shorter life expectancy than their parents. With school gym programs being reduced and  screen time on the rise, we need to be our kids’ fitness role models. Encourage fitness by taking family walks after dinner, or trying out the Family Circus class. 3. Exercise boosts energy Winded by grocery shopping or household chores? Regular physical activity can improve your muscle strength and boost your endurance. Exercise and physical activity deliver oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and help your cardiovascular system work more efficiently. And when your heart and lungs work more efficiently, you have more energy to go about your daily chores. 4. Fully enjoy the things you love The more fit you are, the easier it will be for you to take part in the activities you enjoy. Whether it’s going for a hike and experiencing the outdoors, or playing with the kids, you’ll find yourself more able to keep up, and less short of breath. 5. Ease back pain and improve your posture A daily regimen of stretches and exercise can also do wonders for your back. By strengthening your core abdominal muscles, you’ll increase your overall strength, taking the pressure away from your back and helping to alleviate any existing back pain. 6. Take some time for yourself Whether it’s an early morning jog, an afternoon cycle class or a late night walk with the dog, solo exercise gives you the opportunity to have a few moments of peace and quiet, think about future goals, and take some much-deserved â€Å"you† time. It’s also the perfect excuse to listen to your favourite soundtrack while you work out!

Comparing Crime in Beloved, Crime and Punishment, and Utopia :: comparison compare contrast essays

Crime in Beloved, Crime and Punishment, and Utopia      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   To begin with an omniscient and philosophical frame of reference, crime is only defined as crime by the society defining it.   When a mass of human beings coagulate to ¬ gether and form a civilized society, they are bound to make rules and laws to follow and bide by; for laws are one of the cornerstones of a civilized society.   If there were no laws, society would be uncivilized and in a chaotic state of anarchy.   These laws are decided and administered usually by elected officials who act as leaders in the society.   From the input of the citizens, they make laws to run the society by.   And when a person breaks the law, that is defined as a 'crime'.   For example, purposeful and alleged manslaughter is a crime, because it is a law to not kill others; people are not allowed to go cavorting around killing whomever they please, if they did, civilization would fall.   Laws and rules hold us to civilization.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Another way to define crime is through ethics and morals.   Each person on this Earth possesses a conscience; when we do something wrong, our conscience makes us feel guilty, although some people feel less or more guilt than others about certain acts; it varies individually.   Based on this, one can define a crime as the things that make us feel guilty, although some crimes do not make us feel guilty.   Some people do not feel any guilt when committing immoral acts; these people are deemed psychopaths or sociopaths by society. For example, most people do not feel guilty when they break the law by speeding, its just a way of life these days, but with complex ideologies (stealing, killing), we feel guilt if they are committed.   Our consciences also hold us to civilization.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, the laws are already defined in Early Nineteenth century St. Petersburg, Russia.   Henceforth, when one breaks a law they have committed a crime and are eligible for arrest and punishment by the upholders of law in society, the police.   A particular act that is defined as criminal is that of murder. Raskolnikov knows of this very well, for he has

The most critical job the company is evaluating for redesign is the position of the System Analyzer. This position is critical to operations because the system analyzer is responsible for monitoring all of the chemical components used in the production of goods. Ovania is looking to automate this position which will require system analyzers to have more technical skills. Overall, the changes the company is implementing will change the tasks, duties, and responsibilities of this position by more than 70 percent. The company anticipates that the transition to this new system will be a two year process. Ovania has already developed a committee to design the potential skill set that they feel will be needed to perform the system analyzer job and testing to evaluate that skill set was developed. Recruiting new applicants for the newly designed position was done internally and externally, with emphasis on recruiting from within the organization, as well as current system analyzers who were willing to retrain, prior to the two year implementation, for their positions. Prescreening for skills and experience were not considered as part of the application process in order to encourage a more diverse pool of applicants. Concern were raised, however, that some protected classes may find the position objectionable based on some of the requirements, such as entering treatment tanks to read gauges because the work is quite dirty. Applicants would be considered based on their performance on aptitude and ability tests. Testing would only take place for skills which the company felt it could not reasonably train an applicant for prior to the two year implementation date. The cutoff score for testing was decided upon and after testing the company has narrowed the pool of applicants to twenty, however he testing itself has been problematic for the organization, because the position is new and no validity or normative data exists to base the testing on. The key issue facing Ovania is the validity of the testing procedure for the new position. Because no prior data exists, Ovania needs to be certain that the criteria selected for testing is actually valid for the position of system analyst. How does a company such as Ovania conduct a job analysis for a position that does not exist yet? By looking at the current position requirements (duties and tasks) as well as the current job description, Ovania can develop guidelines for the new position. While this position will be different from the current job requirements, some of the areas included in the current job analysis will be valid for the new position as well. Any new skills and responsibilities the company anticipates may be required could be researched based on analysis already conducted within the industry for similar jobs. Leaving room for additional requirements and noting that the analysis methods may change as the position develops will also be key, however primary responsibilities and skill sets for applicants should be established based in research specific to the industry and based on similar positions. Did Ovania choose content-valid selection criteria? What other predictors may be useful? Selection criteria used by Ovania is content valid for this position, as it samples the knowledge and skill necessary to perform the job. Ovania may also benefit from learning about applicants previous performance in related positions and physical ability testing for this position. Given the technical nature and level of responsibility required for this position, prior job performance data will be valuable in assessing capability of the applicant. Why not hire someone fully trained now? Ovania has decided that it is willing to train any skills it deems reasonable to be acquired prior to the two year implementation date. The advantage of this approach is that the selected applicant will be trained ccording to the development of the position over that time and will be familiar with the company environment. The disadvantage is the cost of that training to Ovania should the applicant decide to leave or not work out in this position. Should the concern about women getting down into the dirty treatment tanks have been a selection issue? How might you include this factor in a selection battery? The issue of getting in the dirty treatment tanks should not be considered for just female applicants, but should be addressed with all applicants for the position as it is a required part of the position for anyone chosen for the job. This should be part of the developed job description and all applicants selected to be interviewed should be five the description for the position and emphasis made that checking the gauges in the treatment tanks is a mandatory requirement. They should have full understanding that if they are not willing to perform this part of the job they will not be considered for the position as it is necessary to the safety of the plant operations.

Free Online Public Schools for Tennessee Students

Tennessee offers resident students the opportunity to take online public school courses for free; indeed they can get their entire education via the internet. Below is a list of no-cost virtual schools currently serving elementary and high school students in Tennessee. To qualify for the list, schools must meet the following qualifications: classes must be available completely online, they must offer services to Tennessee residents, and they must be funded by the government. Tennessee Virtual Academy The Tennessee Virtual Academy is for students who are in kindergarten through eighth grade. The tuition-free school offers courses in six core subjects and is specifically geared toward students with minds that might wander when traditional classes are too slow as well as minds that get lost in the shuffle, (and) minds that need a little more time, according to the academys website. Additionally, the school notes that its program features: State-certified teachers, who are available online and by phoneIndividualized curriculum, which covers both the core subject areas and electivesOnline planning and assessment tools, resources, and hands-on materials ranging from textbooks to microscopes, from rocks and dirt to illustrated classic children’s stories.A supportive school community, which organizes fun and informative monthly activities where parents, students, and staff share their successes, difficulties, and helpful hints. K12 K12, which as the name implies is for kindergarten through 12-grade students, is in many ways like a brick-and-mortar school, in that it: Does not charge tuitionUses state-certified or -licensed teachersFollows Tennessee state education requirements for standards and assessmentsResults in a high school diploma upon completion But, K12 notes that it differs from traditional brick-and-mortar classrooms in that: Students receive individualized education and personalized one-to-one support.Classes do not take place in a building but rather at home, on the road, or wherever an internet connection can be found.Parents and students communicate with their teacher via online classrooms, email, and phone, (but also sometimes in person). K12 is a full-time program that follows the traditional school-year calendar. You can expect that your child will spend 5 to 6 hours per day on coursework and homework, the virtual program says on its website. But students are not always in front of a computer — they also work on offline activities, worksheets, and projects as part of the school day. Tennessee Online Public School (TOPS) Founded in 2012, Tennessee Online Public School is part of the Bristol, Tennessee City Schools system and is a statewide public virtual school serving Tennessee students in grades nine to 12. TOPS notes that it is accredited by AdvancED and uses Google Apps for Education to provide students with cloud-based services and email as well as Canvas, an open-access learning website that offers courses in a variety of areas. Families do not pay tuition for a student to attend an online public school, TOPS notes, but adds: Common household items and office supplies like printer ink and paper are not provided. Other Options The Tennessee Department of Education promotes online schooling and notes that parents can enroll their children in online virtual schools that are not based in Tennessee. However, parents need to ensure that the school has a legitimate accreditation status and provide evidence to the local school district that their child is enrolled in an accredited online school. The school must be accredited by one of the following regional accrediting agencies: AdvancEDSACS CASI – Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School ImprovementNCA CASI – North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement.NWAC – Northwest Accreditation CommissionMiddle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA)MSCES – Middle States Commission on Elementary SchoolsMSCSS – Middle States Commission on Secondary SchoolsNew England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC)Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and affiliates (e.g., SAIS)National Council of Private School Accreditation (NCPSA) Note that many online schools do charge hefty fees, but there are just as many virtual schools that are free to public school students. If you find a virtual out-of-state school that sparks your interest, be sure to check for potential costs by typing tuition and fees in the school websites search bar. Then, fire up your PC or Mac and start learning online — for free.
